Right now, I'm leeching an unsecured Wi-Fi conneciton up in one of the very few areas that has already gotten power back up, so I'll make this post quick.

Hurricane Wilma hit South Florida as a major hurricane (Category 3), but nothing even remotely close to the level with which Hurricane Andrew hit us. Despite this, Wilma dealt a crushing blow to South Florida's entire infrastructure, especially power (and subsequently communications). Many of Florida Power and Light's power substations were severely damaged by debris, and as such FPL is restoring power at a painstakingly slow rate. Continue reading

The Case of the Lost Schedule Book

A customer left behind a schedule book from Miami-Dade College, and being the upstanding citizen I am, I did not simply throw it away. I did, however, take a look inside, so as to gain insight into the mind of the owner, to understand what might have driven her to leave behind a schedule book.

Annoying Quotes From Sales Clerks Listed

"Uh, that's not my department." Ever hear that in a store? Did visions of fiendish violence against the clerk flash through your mind? "Not my department" topped the list of Most Annoying Words from Salesperson's Mouth, cited by 29 percent, in a poll of shopping mall customers by a retail consulting firm.

In a large store, people are trained for and work a specific department. And if the words "that's not my department" send "visions of fiendish violence against the clerk" through the customer's mind, then how do you expect the employee to go out of his/her way to accomodate someone who obviously has a mental disease, a latent homocidal bent, or is just a fucking asshole? iTunes uSuck

Today, I deleted iTunes from my system.

I've always been a die-hard PC user and thus fairly ambivalent to the Apple crowd, despite the fact that I'm usually in-line with other "hipster" brands (case in point, I drive a Volkswagen). Note, however, that I do not shop at Urban Outfitters. Continue reading
